Darrell Scott with Mark and Micah Atkinson 06FEB10 - tickets going FAST

Friends,

Even though it is 2 weeks away I felt the need to send out an extra
email to you -the Woody Hawley faithful fans - so that you could be
sure to get a ticket and not take the chance of being turned away at
the door at our next show.

I am so excited about our next artist. Darrell Scott
www.darrellscott.com  is a songwriters' songwriter. He has written
songs for Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Maura O'Connell, Guy Clark & the
Dixie Chicks to name a few. His haunting song (and my personal
favorite) "Never Leave Harlan Alive" has been recorded by Kathy
Mattea, Patty Loveless and Brad Paisley. But no one performs his songs
like he does. Here's the link to his stunning performance of the song
on Mountain Stage two years ago in Bristol, TN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69BwNVtyCKs .  Take a listen and you'll
understand.

Darrell is also a sought after session player in Nashville. He plays
guitar, mandolin, dobro, pedal steel, banjo and piano. He is also a
great singer and a consummate performer. I'll remind you again next
week, but I wanted to give you an early opportunity to get a ticket.

Speaking of tickets, they are still just $15 general and $10 for
seniors over 60. They can be purchased on line at
www.theclaycenter.org , by phone 304-561-3570, or in the lobby at the
Clay Center box office during business hours.

I know that you love acoustic music and great singer/songwriters. Well
it doesn't get any better than this - I'm just saying. Hope to see you
there Saturday Feb 6th at 7:30. As an extra bonus, the excellent
father/daughter duo of Mark and Micah Atkinson will be opening and
debuting their new CD "I Shall Fly".

Take care,

Ron

Haiti Unity Relief Efforts

From: Association of
Unity Churches - Susan Velasquez [mailto:newsletters@unity.org]

Subject: Association of Unity
Churches Communication regarding Haiti

Dear Friends,

Our Association of Unity Churches International has established
the Haiti Relief Fund to support those impacted by the recent earthquake in Haiti.

As you know, supplies and money are being directed to many
organizations toward the relief effort. If you and/or your spiritual community
are directing your support to these organizations, by all means continue to do
so. Our Haitian brothers and sisters will require this support and more for the
foreseeable future.

In addition to continuously holding the prayer consciousness
for Haiti,
our Spiritual Social Action Ministry Team is working with Worldwide Support.
Worldwide Support has been in direct communication with the Association of
Unity Leaders in the Dominican
Republic. The Unity Leaders, with the
support of Centro de Operacion de Emergencia and Sur Futuro (both non profit
organizations in the Dominican Republic), are prepared to bring much needed
supplies to the Haitians who have left Port Au Prince and are now in Port de
Paix (in the northwest section of Haiti) and Jacmel (which is South of Port Au
Prince).

Centro de Operacion de Emergencia and Sur Futuro will transport
and distribute to earthquake victims now in Port de Paix and Jacmel items
purchased by the Association of Unity Leaders as well as copies of Daily Word
in French from Unity in Montreal,
Canada.
Reverend Sara Sanchez, President of the Association of Unity Leaders in the Dominican Republic,
has agreed to provide us ongoing reports and updates of this effort. This will
be the purpose of this relief fund and it will make a difference in the lives
of those who have relocated due to the devastation of the earthquake.

This relief effort will be administered by the Association of
Unity Churches International. To support this effort, send your tax-deductible
contributions payable to:

Association of Unity Churches International

Haiti
Relief Fund

P.O. Box 610

Lee's Summit, Mo 64083

Please note on your check that the donation is for the Haiti
Relief Fund.

We will give you periodic updates of the progress of this
effort. Please note that in the event there is an overabundance of funds for
this project, we will do our due diligence to assure the money is applied to
effectively support the relief effort in Haiti.

On behalf of the Association of Unity Churches International
and our Spiritual Social Action Team, we thank you in advance for your support
in making a difference in the lives of our fellow spiritual beings.

In the Spirit of Love, Oneness and Unity,

Many Many Thanks!

Many many Unity thanks to everyone!

We had a wonderful work day today:

The garden group cleared the outside of the building, and it looks great! The front especially!

A group of folks reclaimed a huge area in the parking lot from the vines!

Sunday school teachers painted and continued making the main SS room lovely!

The windows, oh the windows, in the common room are clean and bright!

And the smell, wonderful and clean and fresh!

There was plumbing in the upstairs bathroom (and a new sponsor for that room!)

There was lots of scrapping in the sanctuary foyer.

There was lots of clutter cleared and bagged and ready for the dump.

There is a new feeling of space in the sanctuary (with four and a half less pews now downstairs)

And, .... there is a new furnace!

Thank you UKV members who heard the need for a new furnace and immediately donated the money (it was fully paid for within twenty-four hours), and to our friends and members who devoted many hours of skilled labor installing it!

Thank you for everyone all the energy, fun, laughter, and hard work!

Thank you for you, for your prayers, support, and love!

It was a great day!

So -- Now that the heat is on, we will be painting the sanctuary next.

Be ready for a big painting day next Saturday, Jan 30, starting at 9:00am

After the painting comes the new carpet, and then, we can rest (I think!)

I will send out more details as the plan for next Saturday are finalized!

And Remember, You are a Blessing!

Positive, Practical Christianity

Sunday - Jan 10, 2010
at 11:00 am
"The Value of Walking Your Walk"
One thing folks love about Unity is that each person is free to walk their own spiritual walk without judgement. In this lesson I will be lifting up this value, and our intentions to be progressing in our moving away from judgemental communications and towards more respectful forms using the principles of NonViolent Communication. I will be tying this in to the work of Martin Luther King, the celebration of Kwanzaa, and the story of Adam and Eve as seen from Islam and the church father Irenaus.  (We are still currently meeting at Blaine Blvd )

Several of us are noticing that something is happening at Unity, there is a new life and spirit, come and check it out.

All Church Meeting and Potluck after the Service.
Please bring a dish to share and join us to hear the latest updates on the renovations of the new building!!!

This Saturday, Jan 17:
10am - Renovations at the new building continue!
Please bring cleaning supplies and steam cleaners
Even if you can not stay, if we could borrow you steam cleaner, we would be most grateful!

To all UKV Members and Attendees,

There will be a church-wide meeting and pot-luck on January 17, 2010 following our regular service.  We will be discussing the new church and preparations needed before we can move in and begin services.  Our target date for our first service at Myrtle Road is March 7th. .

The UKV Board of Trustees has broken the restoration efforts into "job" teams so that a person doesn't feel necessary to be involved in every effort.  So far, we have the job teams below.  As the restoration progresses, I'm sure there will be additional opportunities and that larger processes will be split into more manageable projects.

We will be discussing the overall organization of teams and skills.  The board will convey their ideas and we'd also like to begin getting an idea of what you would all like to see happen with this new space.

Please consider what teams and projects you'd like to be involved in.  This is truly an awesome opportunity to make this "Your Church" and any contribution will be welcomed and cherished!  If you have a design idea, please be prepared to share it.  Bring drawings or pictures of examples so that we can share in your vision.  Feel free to forward any electronic content in PowerPoint, Jpeg or Gif Picture format or HTML.  If there is another program or format you'd like to use, please contact Matt Schwartz via email at mtschwartz@aep.com.  He will try to assist you.

Bridge Road Update
Yesterday I had several meeting at Bridge Road re asbestos, mold, and safety. I am surprised and excited about the results!

1 - I met with UKV friend Fred Durham and Jeff Hedgecock, both from the WV DEP - Division of Air Quality (UKV member Jeanne Chandler also works there). We did a walk-through. Bottom line: Jeff thinks it is fine for us to go ahead with the plans to tear out the carpet and padding in the sanctuary, he recommend we wait on the drywall downstairs until we can get that area tested for asbestos.

2 - I also met with UKV friend, Craig Wilger, who is a private building health engineer. We identified the areas of mold, and did a survey of the air flow patterns through the building. It appears that we can easily isolate the mold affected areas, and safely start the process of cleaning the mildew and solving the musty smell without much problem. Craig has a lot of experience in this area, he did not think the problem was a big one (he has seen and dealt with much worse). He thought we could have it resolved in about a week!

The Demolition Crew this Saturday at 1:00
UKV friend, Mark Sabor, will be parking two of his dump trucks at UKV every Saturday in January and February for our use! Here is the plan for this Saturday, starting at 1:00:

1 - Remove the carpet and padding from the sanctuary
2 - Clean the dormant mildew of the walls and pews
3 - Clean the dormant mildew off the panelling in the big downstairs room

We will have safety air masks available (they work great). Please bring carpet cutters, rubber or plastic gloves, buckets, sponges, towels, and other cleaning supplies. Craig recommend that we use Borax for the mildew. I would also recommend knee pads (the mildew is down low). If we had 15 folks on this project, we could get it done in one afternoon (weather permitting)! Please let me know if you are in!

The Construction Crew, headed by our fearless leader Matt Schwartz, could work on isolating the mold/mildew rooms. This would involve erecting a heavy plastic barrier in the hallway near the kitchen. Thankfully, the kitchen is clean and has not been effected by the mildew problem!

Needless to say, I am really excited about this news. We have set a target date of being in the Bridge Road Church by March 1 (53 days away!) I think we will make it!

And I am amazed at how the Universe has brought together so many talented and generous people, with exactly the expertise that we needed, just at the right time. I am amazed!!! Demonstrations Abound!!!

Hank Williams Tribute with John Lilly and Rob McNurlin this Saturday, 09JAN10

Friends,

Happy New Year ! Just when you thought it was time to stop celebrating
we bring you one more great reason to continue !!

On Saturday January 9th at 7:30 we will proudly present the first
Woody Hawley Concert of 2010. Back by popular demand, for the 3rd year
in a row, we will showcase a night of music dedicated to Hank
Williams. Singer/songwriters John Lilly & Rob McNurlin, renowned
fiddle player Buddy Griffin, dobro virtuoso Donnie Scott, and Mountain
Stage's Ritchie Collins will demonstrate their mastery of the songs of
legendary Hank Williams.

West Virginia has the dubious distinction of being the final
destination of Hank Williams' last road trip. Since it was said to
have happened on New Years Eve, John Lilly & Rob McNurlin thought it
it would be a good idea to choose a night close to Dec 31 and have a
party playing every Hank Williams song they could think of. After
several years of attracting a throng of dedicated fans we finally
joined forces with them and gave the event a permanent home.

This year the band will be joined by legendary steel guitar player
Kayton Roberts. Kayton was a member of Hank Snows' band "The Rainbow
Ranch Boys" for 30 years and is a master of the music of this time
period.

Tickets are $15 and $10 for seniors 60 and over. They can be purchased
online at www.theclaycenter.org , by phone at 304-561-3570, in person
at the Clay Center box office during business hours, or at the door
the evening of the concert.

Come enjoy the cabaret atmosphere and beautiful sound system in the
capable hands of Mountain Stages' Paul Flaherty. You can have a glass
of wine (or in the this case more appropriately a beer), relax, and
listen to some great music. Hope to see you there !

Great Sound, Great Music, Great Atmosphere.

Take care,

Ron Sowell

A MESSAGE FROM THE UNIVERSE (from www.tut.com)

I want you all to know, that I've ordered up another year for you.

Think I'll call it 2010.

I'm going to put most of the same people of 2009 in it, since you all think so much alike. But there'll also be a few new, very cool cats coming to play - give them some time to grow up though.

And I'm going to have things start off pretty much exactly where they left off in 2009, for continuity's sake. Flips folks out too much when I don't.

All in all, 365 more days in paradise... and only one request of you:  DREAM BIGGER.

Coolio?

Let's do this,

The Universe
