prayer request

Hello everyone,

I would like to request that you continue to keep Ric and Jeanne K Cochran in your thoughts and prayers.  I ran into Ric and his son at Kohl's this evening.  What a terrific couple of guys!

Ric said that Jeanne continues to have a wonderful positive attitude as always (her blog is wonderful).  Jeanne will start chemo soon.  What I didn't know is that Ric is going to be starting chemo soon also.  The meds for his MS are not working.  His doctors are going to try to use chemo to kill off part of the MS area.  He and Jeanne will be receiving chemo in the same facility but they have worked it out so they will not receive on the same days.  What a duo!  They are amazing.  Such an inspiration.

Thank you all so much,

Pam

Unity Sundays at 11

We will be having our usual Sunday celebrations at Unity at 11am this Sunday and next.

I expect these will be somewhat quieter and informal services (if that is even possible!). You are very welcome to join in, please remember, you are loved wherever you are!

Thank you for your best wishes and intentions in the Christmas weekend, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Wayshower, and the pressence of the Christ within each of us.

And please remember, You are a Blessing!

Sky

Hi Pam,
Nathaniel's surgery went well.  He'll see the doc in ten days to make sure the bones are mending correctly.  Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.   We will see you in the New Year.

Yes, that would be nice and certainly can't hurt.  He will be having a closed reduction on Wednesday afternoon at Thomas Hospital.  Dr. Molina hopes to align the bones and cast his arm under anesthesia.   If it won't realign with manipulation, he will have to open his arm and place plates and screws.  Of course we are praying for the less invasive route.

  Thanks for your prayers,  Lisa

That is wonderful and very kind. Because of Ric's MS, we know that this time around, we will need to accept help that is offered. So thank you!  Food is actually the thing that helps us most. Ric used to love to cook, but no longer is able to stand for a very long time, and my right arm will be somewhat compromised for a while, so food would be welcome. It sure doesn't have to be fancy. Some tuna salad or something for sandwiches, a pizza, or anything easy is wonderful.

Also, There was a job I never got around to finishing that would be nice to have wrapped up before the first snowfall, and that would be raking leaves. I got most of it finished, but there are still some in the front yard, in the corner of the driveway, and on the back deck. (We started last year, letting the side yard become just like the woods, and want to leave the leaves on the ground in that space.). It's not a big job, but one I'll be unable to finish.

It's really nice of so many to want to help us, especially since we haven't been coming to church... But that's the kind of people you are... Gracious and loving. Thank you so much for your kind offer. My cell phone is 304.541.8984, and Rics is 304.546.7608. Blessings and love to you!

Hi All,

My plans have changed. Instead of going into the Peace Corps (which wanted to send me to Central Asia next September) I have accepted a position to teach English at the Center for Inter-american Studies (www.cedei.org) in Cuenca, Ecuador! I fly down on January 2, 2012 and the job commitment is for nine months (through September, 2012). The school runs ten-week sessions with week-long breaks in between, so I may be able to fly back to the states at least once during that period. (Although there is no such thing as an inexpensive fare!) Those breaks also offer an opportunity to travel nearby.

I am truly excited! Most of you know that it has been a long-held dream of mine to "retire" in Latin America and do something useful. This won't exactly be a retirement, but it will put me living in a culture that I love, in a country and city that I have visited and feel very drawn to, doing something (teaching English) which I really enjoyed while undergoing the CELTA certification training.

The good news is that with the internet and Skype, it is easy to stay in touch even across oceans! And I do hope that some of you will plan to come visit me in Ecuador -- it is an amazing country full of friendly, interesting people.

Love, light and laughter,
Juanita Ruth One

To Juanita Ruth One's workshop. This simple but powerful method has helped me already this week. I have talked about this workshop to others to share and reinforce (for myself) the benefits of this heart-felt approach.

I've already shared the topic with shared the topic with several friends and watched them change from dreading the holiday season to excitedly anticipating it.  What better way to end the Thanksgiving weekend than with energy and enthusiasm for the four weeks ahead!"

Bob Webb and I are looking forward to our concert on Sunday!  We'll be doing a selection of new songs from our new CD "Light the Winter's Dark" plus some favorites from our standard tune bag.  We will have new CDs at the concert, as well as "Seeing Things" and others.  It's a perfect time to think about holiday gifts...

Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3:00 pm
Unity of Kanawha Valley - Sanctuary
$10 suggested donation

"Light the Winter's Dark" is not your typical Christmas CD. There are 16 songs that take us from the advent of winter through the Solstice and holidays, and on to the other side where sunny days return. There are songs I've written with a winter theme, and songs by other writers including beautiful winter solstice songs and a few Appalachian holiday carols... and a few surprises along the way.  We've also selected some Appalachian fiddle tunes that fit the season. The overall theme of the CD is to honor the Light that is within us all. Many traditions are represented among the songs... it's very inclusive music! Local musicians on the CD include Ron Sowell, John Lilly, Julie Adams, Mark Davis and Deron Sodaro.

We'll be performing Sunday, just us two, with our guitars, cello, mandolin and mountain dulcimers.  This is our only concert before I head off to Oregon to stay till spring, and we begin the real move for both of us.

Hope you can join us!

Thanks,

Heidi

windows for the manse building behind Unity

Hello everyone,

Thanks to the hard work, generosity, and dedication of our wonderful members, the main building of the Unity church is in good shape to face the coming cold winter months.  The manse, however, has not been a focus of our fund raising efforts.  Last winter, the heating bills for the manse alone were in the upper $500-$600 range for several months, making it difficult if not impossible for the tenant to pay.  The house suffers a substantial heat loss due to the cold wind blowing in the windows.  We have begun a project to replace the windows of the manse, with several members coming forward to sponsor a window, and we have collected enough so far by word of mouth to put in seven new windows.  It occurred to us that many of you were not aware of this effort and we would like to make everyone aware of the opportunity to be involved in this wonderful project.

Three bids on replacement windows were obtained.  UKV went with Window World since they were the most inexpensive.  The windows cost $265 per window with the large windows (over four panes across) counting as two windows.  Several people have donated a window or a portion of a window.  Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much,

Pam

Fwd: Prayer Request

This prayer request is from Trish.

Thank you,

Pam

Today is a BIG day for me!  I am asking for a big and happy prayer request. My granddaughter, Bayleigh Hall Goff's water broke this morning (on her mother Julie's 40th birthday no less!) and my grandson, Brantley Joseph Goff is expected to make his grand entrance today!

I am asking that her delivery goes smoothly and that Brantley and Bayleigh will be healthy and whole at the end of the process. Joey, Brantley's father, is a severe diabetic so we are all hoping the baby dodges that bullet. All prayers are greatly appreciated.

Love and light,

Patricia

I wanted to let everyone know that my friend, Sandra Schindler, passed away during the night.  Her husband, Tom, sent an e-mail to let her friends know.  I just talked to him.  I believe he is still in shock.  Apparently it was due to respiratory failure.  I talked with Sandra last week.  She had fractured her back causing lots of pain.  She had been immobile for a year and was back in the hospital.  Now she is on "the other side" and free of pain.  When I first heard the news, I was sad, cried and then cried with Tom as we talked on the phone.  Now I feel a sense of peace and relief for Sandra.  God bless her as she is now on an exciting adventure exploring the spiritual side of Light and Love.

Please continue to hold Tom, and Sandra's family (Mom, 2 sons and grandchildren) in light and love.  Thank you for all your prayers.  If you would like to send a card to Tom his address is 1605 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV 25177.

We wish we could be with you this Saturday but it looks like we will be in a hospital for the next week or more.

Fwd: Fall Festival

From: Mary Johnson <mkjohnson92@yahoo.com>
Date: Wed, Oct 26, 2011 at 9:47 AM
Subject: Fall Festival

Saturday is almost here.  The weather report mentions a shower possible.  But, we have three days to see if weather patterns will vary or change and might be better than predicted.  However, no matter the weather...the festival will go on.  Phyllis, Linda and Kim are meeting in the church kitchen Friday at 1:00 to proceed with the caramel apples; I'll be on hand should they need help with supplies.  There are lots of prizes for games,  and there are novelties to buy.  Shaklee products will be sold on site.  Games, like Wheel of Fortune and Corn-Hole bean bag toss will be happening - somewhere!  A costume parade and judging will occur and prizes for costumes awarded.  Pumpkin painting will also be available for anyone with a mind to decorate one for their porch for Halloween. There will be two face painters, one being our own Devin Elliott, and another that Ann Bostic was able to find.  Barbie will be offering short 'Life Coaching' sessions to those who'd like to sample her wonderful ability to assist others in setting goals.  Chair massage will be there, and Marianne and Kathy will be available to comfort those muscles that haven't been appreciated properly for awhile.  Of course there's Danny and Sandy who will be grilling and serving hot dogs - with all the trimmings.  Jim Selby will be taking money for the food line as well as selling tickets for games.  Sky and Ron will be on hand to host open mic with those who'd like to step up and entertain everyone.  Books, CD's and T-shirts will be sold by Pam and Paul.  Sharon will be on hand to make pricing signs for the activities so everyone will know where the activities are and the price of tickets (.50).  We still need baked goods: pies, cakes, and individually wrapped desserts for the food line.  You can drop them off Friday afternoon at the church.

Wow!  Could there be a better reason to plan on stopping by Unity this Saturday, October 29th?  Come on out and have some fun.  We could use help with the
games if anyone has a mind.  Sure would be appreciated.  And remember, all proceeds will go to the church.  The loan pay-off is our goal..and we can do it together.  SEE YOU THERE!!!!!!!!!

Unity "All Saints" Service this Sunday at 11am

Our "All Saints" rememberance service is this Sunday at 11am at Unity.
Our service last year was very special for many people.

Please bring an item (a photo, a flower, a special memento) that reminds you of that special person who meant a lot to you in your life.

There will be a table set up to hold these special items.

And, as we did last year, there will be time in the service if anyone wants to say a few words in remembrance of their loved one.

Thanks

Sky

Pam, I just received this from a very dear friend who lives in GA.  If it's appropriate, would you mind sending this out?

Prayer needed for the Viars family. "Michael and Tara Viars are missionaries to Pakistan along with their 6 children. They recently relocated to northern India due to political climate in Pakistan. Yesterday, their 8-yr-old son Windle, fell while playing, resulting in abdominal pain and profuse blood in his urine. After a visit to ER, a mass was found on his kidney and they are making plans to return to U.S. asap. Please pray for this family, for Windle's healing, for their peace of mind, for funds to get them all home, for God's perfect provision in their time of need."

Thanks,
Susie
