sale at church

Judy Hamilton called to let me that there is a sale today and tomorrow at St. Christopher's Church at 821 Summerset Drive.  The church is close to Edgewood Drive near the tennis courts. The sale is in the white building next to the church.

 Four churches have combined into one.  They are selling tables, chairs, pews, playground equipment, etc.    Sale hours are 10:30-3 today and 1:30-5 on Sunday.  For more information, the sale is listed in this morning's newspaper on page 3D.

Memorial Garden meeting - today at 4pm

Hello everyone,

Doug Harper, one of our Open Mic favorites, will be in Charleston today at 4pm to meet with anyone who is interested in listening to some ideas about the Memorial Garden.  Sky had asked Doug for his expertise and advise since Doug is a landscaper.  The Board voted that the Memorial/Meditation Garden will be placed in the back yard of the manse to be close to the woods and away from some of the road noise.  Doug is just stopping by to view the land and come up with some ideas.  Everyone is welcome.  Sorry for such short notice.

Women On the Bridge - Tuesday, March 8th at 12:00 noon

Hello everyone,
 
Barrie Kaufman has asked me to send out a reminder of the Women On the Bridge event on Tuesday, March 8th at noon. 
 
Please join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day and join us on the Southside Bridge in support of women victims of war.  Women for Women International's campaign, "Join Women on the Bridge", unites women, men, and children all over the world showing that women can build bridges of peace and hope.

Limited parking is available at West Virginia Lottery Commission, the YWCA, and Unity of Kanawha Church.
 
Gather at each end of the bridge at 12 noon.

Just a reminder that our next Open Mic 4 Kids! will be tomorrow evening (February 25th) at 6:30pm at Unity of Kanawha Valley.  Performers sign up at 6pm.  This event is for kid performers ages 5-15.  This month's event will be hosted by Ron Sowell.

The title is Developing an Altitude of Gratitude and is designed to help deepen the participant's ability to express and receive gratitude in their lives.

Invitation to Membership at Unity

Friends,

Twice a year we invite our regular attenders of Unity to consider becoming a member of Unity of Kanawha Valley. We are now preparing for our Spring reception of new members. And I'd like to ask you to check in with your Self to see if this might be something that would be helpful to you at this point in your journey.

Being a member at Unity of Kanawha Valley might be important to you in at least two ways.

First, it would give you a stake in the the direction of the organization.

UKV has an Annual Membership meeting every Spring. At this meeting the membership deals with the bigger issues related to the leadership and property of the Church. The members hear reports from the Board about these issues and discusses and approves the Board's actions. If there is an issue with the property or the minister, these can be discussed and decided. The membership also votes for new Board members (two out of the six board members rotate off every year).

Second, it might help bring focus or deepening to your spiritual journey.

Unity seems to be especially good at helping people develop a positive image of a loving God, and develop a positive prayer life that supports the development of a deeper consciousness and relationship with the idea of this loving God being within you and accessible to you at all times.

A great big thanks to Matt Schwartz for cutting up the wood from our fallen tree by the UKV parking lot.

Thank you to Jim Selbe for picking up and installing a new smoke alarm in the church kitchen.

For Nate Epling and his help with hospitality.

For Ron and Jack and Ryan and their wonderful creative spirits.

Thanks to Ed Gunter who stopped by UKV to put the front planters upright after a wind storm knocked them over.  He fixed the leaky faucet in the bathroom.  Ed also fixed the electrical outlet by the copier so we no longer have to stretch the cord across the room.  Actually he just touched it and had the magic touch.

Grateful for Geri Ann's decorating expertise.   She is so kind and gentle with her recommendations - we are blessed to have her talented presence amongst us.

I am grateful for Pam Hippler.   She is frequently the 'face of the church' to the community via mail, deliveries, neighbors, etc.... and with that - our church exemplifies kindness, patience, humor via Pam Hippler!  I couldn't be happier that she loves Unity as much as I do.    

I am thankful for Lyle's beautiful singing voice everytime I hear it.   It is truly a pleasure to stand or be near him when the congregation sings!    

For Ron and the Open Stage crew, and those who are so generous with their food talents!

For Kathy Dent's leadership of the Tithing Class, going on after church on Sundays

"I am so thankful for Lisa, Mindy, Judy, and Christy that teach the teens every week.   They are providing rich discussions and interesting activities that prompt deep thought and reflection.... and lots of laughter.   The teen-age years are such a developmental time - so being here for our teens is a wonderful gift.   Let's pray for our teens everyday."

Hospitality Givers Sought

Dear UKV Attendee,

Our church is growing, and that's wonderful news!   We know there are people in our congregation that would like to help make our church more welcoming, and we would like to form a Volunteer Committee to steer these efforts.

We have need for two categories in this Committee.
  • Ushers/Greeters – volunteers would need to arrive at the church about 15-20 minutes prior to the service starting.  Make sure front door is unlocked, lights are turned on, heat/air is adjusted, greet people as they arrive, pass offering plates.
  • Hospitality – this involves setting up refreshments in Activity Room prior to the starting of the service and cleaning up afterwards.  It could be broken down into two parts if the volunteer could not or would not want to arrive early and stay late.  For the first part, the volunteer would need to arrive at the church around 10:15 to 10:20.  He or she would need to prepare the coffee and make sure everything needed (cups, creamer, stirrers, napkins, plates, etc.) is available as people arrive.  For the second part, the volunteer would need to clean up around the refreshment area after the service and make sure all doors (both upstairs front door and Activity Room door downstairs) are locked, or designate someone with a key to lock up when they leave (a Board member or anyone else with a key).  They would also need to check and make sure all lights are turned off upstairs and down, the Christ candle on the stage in the Sanctuary is extinguished, and thermostats are adjusted appropriately for the empty building.
Please indicate your interest in this Committee by replying to this e-mail.  We would like to ask people to volunteer once a month providing we get enough volunteers.  We will set up a meeting to get this Committee moving forward within the next week or two.

Gratitude
