events this week at Unity of Kanawha Valley

Hello everyone,

 

Just a reminder of all the wonderful events happening at Unity of Kanawha Valley this week:

 

TONIGHT - OPEN MIC 4 KIDS! at 6:30pm.  Performers sign up at 6pm.  FREE admission. 

 

TOMORROW (SATURDAY) - Outside work day starting at 9am.  We would like to plant flowers in the front flower bed and do some work on clearing brush, weeding, etc.  Please bring any tools or clear trash bags that you have. 

 

SUNDAY AFTER CHURCH SERVICE - There will be a meeting of the Sunday School teachers and staff following Sunday morning's church service.

 

SUNDAY - "Meet the Monroe Farm Market" farmers at the Bridge Road Bistro from 5-7pm.  This farming group will start delivering their goods to their customers on Thursdays starting May 12th from 4-6pm in Unity's parking lot.  This is a co-op organization.  Please come to the "meet and greet" for more details.

 

NEXT FRIDAY (MAY 6TH) - movie night at 6pm.  Food sharing at 6 with the movie starting around 6:30pm.

 

NEXT SATURDAY (MAY 7TH) - Walkers for the Race for the Cure will meet at 8:15am to walk the race.  We will be gathering on the Cultural Center steps.

 

NEXT SATURDAY (MAY 7TH) - Quiet Day Retreat from 10am-4pm held at UKV.  Light lunch will be provided.  No cost.  Love offerings accepted.  Facilitated by Megan Kozak and Megan Lyon.

 

 

 

Lots of exciting activities going on at UKV.  We are truly blessed.

work day at UKV - this Saturday at 9am.

Hello everyone,

 

There will be an outside work day at UKV this Saturday.  WEATHER PERMITTING.  Please bring any outside tools such as rakes, shovels, etc.  UKV has some equipment left here from last year but we could always use more.  The more hands, the lighter the work!  We could also use some clear trash bags for recycled whatever debris that we rake and dig up.  We are starting at 9am.

Woman Song concert

There will be a concert titled, "Shout Sister Shout" with the WomanSong Chorale, Ethel Caffie Austin, Mountain Thyme, Mountain Laurel Ensemble, and Cora Voce GirlChoir on this Saturday, April 30th at 7:30pm at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Charleston.  FREE ADMISSION.  Non-perishable food donations requested.

This Sunday I will be pulling together our last few months discussions about "the Ether," resurrection, the mystical Christ, and the experience of the presence of God, all around us. A huge thank you to Blue for donning on his fishing boots to unplug the drain on the patio so the rain water could go down.  Thanks also for mopping the foyer after Saturday morning's storms.

So grateful to Kathy Johnson for putting the monthly movie night together.

For the Open Mic crew and Ron, you once again put together a wonderful Open Mic.

Thank you to Jim Selbe for working on clearing off the land next to the green building and for helping to set up tables for movie night and the annual meeting.

Thank you Ron, Jack and Ryan for consistently delivering such beautiful and meaningful music each week.

Thank you Sky for facilitating the discussion groups each week and providing an atmosphere that encourages individual freedom of thought and exploration.

Upcoming UKV Events - this weekend

Hello everyone,

 

We have alot of events going on at UKV this weekend:

 

Friday - Movie Night.  This month's movie is called God Child.  Food sharing starts at 6pm with the movie starting at 6:30pm.  It's always a wonderful time with food and fellowship.

 

Saturday - Woody Hawley Concert at 7:30pm in the Maier Foundation Performance Hall at the Clay Center.  Featuring musician/songwriter Jon Vezner and opening artist Jeff Ellis.  Visit www.theclaycenter.org for more details.

 

Sunday - church service at 11am with New Member Sunday.  Please join us in welcoming our new members to UKV.  After church service, there will be a pot-luck lunch and our annual membership meeting.

So grateful to Ed Gunter for recharging the air conditioner in the sanctuary.

I would like to express a huge and deep gratitude to all the musicians who gave of their time, incredible talent, and energy to MAKE the "Raise the Roof" such a success.       One of the best concerts as far as high energy and just some darn good music I have seen in awhile.      We are so fortunate to have all this talent right here in this area.  I'd vote for our Kanawha Valley Talent over any one!

Ron Sowell's Open Mic - tomorrow evening at 7:30

Hello everyone,

 

Ron Sowell's Open Mic and Coffee House will take place at Unity of Kanawha Valley tomorrow (Friday) evening at 7:30pm.  Performers sign up at 7pm.

 

Admission is $5.00 and $2.00 for performers.  Unity of Kanawha Valley is located at 804 Myrtle Road (corner of Myrtle and Bridge Roads) in the South Hills area of Charleston.

I've never completely understood what is going on with Passover. I get the liberation from bondage theme, but the blood on the door-post part never made sense to me until just recently. Join us for an exploration into what Passover might have meant to Jesus. And how the church used the Last Supper theme to develop its traditions.
