At 8:26 pm in Durant,Oklahoma surrounded by his family Virgil Leo Sowell breathed his last breath and returned to the arms of God.

Sky & Pam,

I am deeply grateful to you and all of my Unity family and friends for your kind thoughts and prayers during this time of great sadness. I feel privileged to have been here to witness my Dad's transition and to have gotten to express to him one last time how much I love him and what a great Dad he was to me.

Thank you for your love & support. It has been a great comfort to me and has given me strength. I have also been comforted each day by the knowledge that "where ever we are God is" and that we can never be separated from the ones we love because in love there is no separation.

Events This Week at Unity

Hello everyone,

The following events are going on at Unity this week:

FRIDAY - OPEN MIC 4 KIDS!!! at 6:30pm.  Performers sign up at 6pm.  This event is for performers from 5-15 years of age.  Please bring whatever talent that you have.  No cover charge.  Parents, grandparents, and friends welcome!

SATURDAY - CANDYRAT GUITAR CONCERT at 7pm.  Spencer Elliot is sponsoring this concert of four amazing guitar players.  Advance tickets are $15.00.  Tickets at the door are $20.00.  Please contact Spencer, Jim Selbe, or myself for tickets.

SUNDAY - CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM.  Sky will be speaking on "Making a Difference!"   UKV also is asking for volunteers to teach Sunday School this Sunday.  

AFTER OUR CHURCH SERVICE,there will be our ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND POTLUCK.  If you are a member, please plan to attend the meeting and the election of members to the Board of Trustees.  Everyone is welcome but only members can vote at the election.  Please bring food to share.


Other Events:

Rae of Hope Fellowship House, a transitional home for women recovering from addictions is having a fundraiser dinner and silent auction on May 10th at the Edgewood Country Club.  Tables are $750 (10 people) and donations are accepted.  Laura Ellis, a UKV member, is on the Board.  For more information, go to www.reaofhope.org.

This Week's Events at Unity

Hello everyone,

The following are events going on at Unity of Kanawha Valley over the next week:


THIS FRIDAY - KARAOKE NIGHT AT 7PM.  GENERAL ADMISSION IS $2.00.  Everyone is welcome.  Please join us for a fun evening of singing and dancing.  Feel free to bring food to share if you would like.

SATURDAY - WEEDING AND LANDSCAPING FROM 10AM -NOON.  The more people, the faster the work goes.  It's a wonderful time to help out.  It may be work but we still have fun.

THIS SUNDAY - CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM.  Our guest speaker is Rev. Ryan Kurczak.  Ryan teaches the Kriya Yoga meditation method and studies under Roy E. Davis in the lineage of Paramahansa Yogananda.  Ryan will be speaking on "Don't Be a Spiritual Cliche!"   Ryan will also be offering a meditation CD for a $2.00 donation.  The CD has a 20 minute talk and a 30 minute practice session.  Quite a deal for $2.00.

ALSO ON SUNDAY - UKV NEEDS SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS FOR THIS SUNDAY!!  PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP OUT.

Hello everyone,

 

Ron called last night to check on weekend events.He wanted to thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  His dad's pain is being managed with medication and he still has his sense of humor.  Virgil is no longer eating.  Ron and one of his high school friends have been singing to him.  Ron said that he cherishes this time with his father.  He is very appreciative to everyone who has helped cover his duties while he is out of town.

Unity of Kanawha Valley's Weekly Events and News

Hello everyone,

The following are upcoming events at Unity of Kanawha Valley this week:

Friday - Ron Sowell's Open Mic at 7:30pm.  Performers sign up at 7pm.  This month's host is Andrew Atkins (while Ron is out of town).  General admission is $5.00.  Performers, seniors, and children - $2.00.   Volunteers are still needed to help Karen with set--up and clean-up.  Donations of food will be greatly appreciated.

Friday and Saturday - Dynamic Mindfulness Workshop sponsored by Kanawha Pastoral Counseling Center will be held at UKV on Friday from 1-6pm and Saturday from 9-5:30pm.  Cost is $125.

Sunday Service - at 11am.  Sky will be speaking this Sunday.  Guest musician, Mark Davis will be at our service  performing with Jack.



Future Events  to keep in mind -
     Friday, April 20th - Karaoke Night at 7pm
     Saturday, April 21st- volunteers needed for weeding and landscaping from 10am-noon.

This Week's Events at Unity of Kanawha Valley

I am sending out this weekly event email early due to the many activities that we have going on.

 

 

TUESDAY - MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR CHARLIE WARE AT 5PM - Charlie was one of the founding members of Unity of Kanawha Valley.  Friends and family will gather to share stories of Charlie. 

 

WEDNESDAY FROM 5:15-5:45PM - QUIET MID-WEEK HOLY WEEK PRAYER SERVICE AND MEDITATION.   Please note the time has changed.

 

FRIDAY - SPIRITUAL CINEMA NIGHT AT 6PM.  Food sharing starts at 6pm with the movie starting at 6:30pm.

 

SATURDAY - "INNER LISTENING" CLASS AT 10:30AM.  This class is led by Marianne Gettman with all donations going to UKV.  This class is designed to help relieve stress and tension.  It includes conscious breathing, slow stretching, balance exercises, guided relaxation, and Qi Gong Flow.

 

ALSO ON SATURDAY - WOODY HAWLEY CONCERT AT 7:30PM IN THE WALKER THEATRE OF THE CLAY CENTER.  Featuring the Waymores and Mike Arcuri as the opener.

 

SUNDAY - EASTER SUNDAY AT 11AM.  Sky will be speaking on "Roll the Stone Away".  Easter egg hunt for the kids to follow the Sunday Service.

About the Kriya Yoga Teleclass
This class will teach basic Kriya Yoga wisdom as shared in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. We will review lifestyle recommendations to make the most of your meditation and spiritual practice. We will also learn preliminary meditation techniques to prepare you for initiation into Kriya Pranayama Meditation.

About the Kriya Yoga Initiation Service
Initiation is a beautiful ritual that helps create the sacred space around your intention to follow a Kriya Yoga mediation practice. On April 22nd, you are welcome to participate in the Kriya Initiation Service from 1:30-3:30 PM at UKV in Charleston.  At the service you will be initiated into the Kriya Techniques mentioned in Autobiography of a Yogi, and connected to the lineage of gurus – Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Sri Yukteswar, Paramahansa Yogananda, and Roy Eugene Davis. Participation in the TeleClass is required to participate in the Initiation Service.
