Fwd: Sanctuary A/C

 

Dear Unity members and Friends,

From your generosity, we have raised the money to install the new air conditioning for the Sanctuary, and it was installed this week by Peggy's husband, Ed.  Some interesting notes:  it was discovered that the old air conditioning unit was built in 1982, so it has served the church well for 30 years.  Ed thought it was a 5 ton unit, but upon examination and removal, discovered it was only 3 ½ tons.  The new Goodman unit is 5 tons, environmentally friendly, uses 410A refrigerant, has a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating of 13 and a 10 year all parts warranty.  The total cost for the system was $1,934.12, with Ed donating his time, profit and expertise.

 

Thanks so much to all who contributed to this project.  Due to your generosity, the money was raised in two weeks!

Bob Smith called this morning to ask that Jane be placed on the Unity Prayer List. Jane is at CAMC Memorial recovering from emergency abdominal surgery last night, and she will have an additional procedure tomorrow. The doctors say her prognosis looks good!

2012 Workshop on July 22nd at Unity

Hello everyone,

I have attached a flyer for the 2012 Workshop at Unity on July 22nd, 2012 from 1-3pm.  The workshop will be presented by Charlotte and Melissa Abell.  There is a $30 fee with a portion of the proceeds donated back to UKV.  They will share positive and exciting news about making this the most extraordinary opportunity to create a time of peace for all people.

Lots of news going on at Unity this week:

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM- AILA ACCAD will be speaking on "FEELING FREE!".

A Cool Opportunity!!
The opportunity to help with the attracting more cool air molecules to the sanctuary is till open!  So far our generous donors have give $1580 of the $2000 needed.  Any and every contribution helps.  We have a vision of having cool air circulating in the sanctuary just in time for this Sunday.  May thanks to all or our contributors, both past, present, and future!  And especially to Ed Gunter (Peggy's husband) who is donating his time and expertise to install the new unit pro bono!  -  Sky

A big thank you goes out to Barbara Steinke who raised $100 for Unity by donating all the proceeds from her yoga dance class last Sunday to UKV.  We all had a blast!

Events this Week at Unity

Hello everyone,

The following are events happening at Unity of Kanawha Valley this week:

FRIDAY - OPEN MIC 4 KIDS!! HOSTED BY RON SOWELL.  Performers sign up at 6pm and the entertainment starts at 6:30pm.  This event's performers are from the ages of 5-15.  NO admission charge. 

SUNDAY - CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM.  Barbie Dallmann will be speaking on "My Journey Home, A Sacred Reunion".  Musicians this week will be Ron Sowell, Jack Kennedy, Ryan Kennedy, Mira Stanley, and Chuck Costa.

ALSO ON SUNDAY - YOGA DANCE AT 4PM.  Barbara Steinke will teach a yoga dance class.  A love offering of $10 is suggested.  All proceeds go to Unity.  Thank you so much, Barbara!!  Please wear comfortable clothes.  NO experience necessary!  Barbara is certified in Kripalu Yoga Dance.

ALSO ON SUNDAY - BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS!  Marianne Gettman will be turning 70 years old next week and Ruth Davis will be turn 80 in July!  There will be a birthday celebration at UKV at 6pm for this ladies.  Lola's pizza and drinks will be provided.  Blue will be the DJ to lots of oldies tunes.  Please let Marianne know if you plan to attend so that she has a number for the pizza order.  You may contact Marianne at WeR1mg@aol.com.

Subject: KPCC Friends Meeting


Hello Pam,
Sky Kershner has asked me to serve as the liaison for KPCC (Kanawha Pastoral Counseling Center) to represent the center to area congregations.  One of our goals is to gather together a group of Friends of KPCC who will be informed of the service of the center including the programs offered to the congregations to support their ministry.  We also desire the Friends to support the center with their interest and their prayers.  Sky thought there might be some from Unity who would like to be Friends of KPCC.  The Friends of KPCC are invited to attend a quarterly meeting of one-and-a-half hours.  The next meeting will be this coming Tuesday, June19, at 9:30AM at the counseling center Room 310.  The center is located in the educational unit of First Presbyterian at the corner of Virginia St. and Leon Sullivan Way in Charleston.

Fwd: Christo Salva Mission Trip

We are going on a Mission trip to Honduras July 15-27th if anyone from Unity would like to help with donations.  The majority of the money we each pay goes to buy the food and medical supplies that we help deliver to the outlying villages.  The cost of the two week trip is $910 per person.  The donations are tax deductible and they can  write their checks to Unity with  Christo Salva Mission Trip or just Mission Trip on the memo lines of their checks.  Like the Shoeboxes we fill at Christmas, we can also take small toys, toiletries, flip flops, etc.  to give to the Hondurans if you would like us to make a donation in that way instead.    We have $97 cash donations from the Hot Dog Sale in June that people donated and $125 from our announcement this past Sunday!

On June 24 at 4:00, Barbara Steinke has generously offered to hold her "Yoga Dance" at Unity which she leads monthly at The Folded Leaf.  Yoga Dance is a joyful, funky, inspirational, and sacred musical journey.  Stretch and dance with ease to fabulous music.  Open your heart and move your body.  It's great for all ages, shapes, and sizes.  Wear comfy clothes.  NO experience necessary!  Barbara is certified in Kripalu Yoga Dance.  Yoga Meets Dance and Shakes Your Soul!  Love donations of $10 or whatever you wish to offer.  Many thanks to Barbara for donating her proceeds to Unity.

There are lots of events going on at Unity of Kanawha Valley:

SATURDAY - KARAOKE NIGHT AT 7PM.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MONTH'S KARAOKE NIGHT IS ON A SATURDAY.  Admission is $2.00.  The singing, dancing, and fun start at 7pm.  Everyone is welcome.

SUNDAY AT 9AM - BOARD MEETING.  Attached are the Board Planks (the action items from last month's board meeting).

SUNDAY AT 11AM - SKY WILL BE SPEAKING ON "FINDING PEACE OF MIND".  Discussion group to follow.


Future Events:

SATURDAY - SHERRI WALKER WILL TEACH AN "ECO-BEAD" WORKSHOP AT NOON.  For $25, we will learn how to make beads out of recycled materials and create a bracelet to take home.

SUNDAY - CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM.   Sky will be talking about "Manifesting with Faith".  From Sky - "Hi Everyone! I'm really excited about the lesson this Sunday.  Peggy and several others asked me several weeks ago about doing something on "manifesting" meaning, making things appear in this world by thought and faith.  I have been collecting local stories from our members and attenders on this subject and am blown away by the examples.   I'll be presenting these this Sunday.  Join us for an inspiring and inspirational topic!   As usual, we will have a chance to discuss the topic after the service with a pick-up discussion group.  Feel free to bring a dish to share! - Sky

Heidi Muller and Bob Webb are having a moving sale on Friday and Saturday from 9am-3pm at 359 Fairview (West Side of Charleston).  For more information, call Heidi at 304-382-9422.  DIRECTIONS: Washington St. West - turn up Edgewood (near Walgreen's).  Go to half mile, then when houses give way to golf course, look for street on left - Hawthorne.  turn sharp left up Hawthorne (very narrow), and take first possible right turn at top of hill onto Fairview.  Bob & Heidi's house is around the bend, only house on right.   Parking note - Street is narrow .  Please drive a block or two and park down the street.

Let's keep the momentum going and schedule a hot dog sale for one Saturday each month during this summer and early fall.  I don't think Sandy and Danny are available this month, but I think we can still pull it off.  I think the only Saturday this month that's available is the 16th.  We are in such a good visible location and people coming up and down Bridge Road on Saturdays can see our banner and think, "Whoa, I'm hungry and I think I'll just stop and get hot dogs to take home to the family."

"Rick's surgery delayed until 6 this morning.  Just finished at 7:40.  Had laparoscopic antiseptic lavage.  No portion of colon removed.  Has a drain and will be in recovery for an hour or more, then to MICU.  Prayer for Protection and Unity family is powerful.  Still a long way from all clear but so much better than possibilities before surgery."
