Needed: Sunday School teacher for the next two Sundays

Unity would like some volunteers to teach the Grades 1-5 Sunday School class for the next two Sundays (11/4 and 11/11).   A teacher scheduled for 11/11 has a conflict that week.  Please let Mindy or myself know if you can help out.  We really appreciate it.

Events at Unity this week

Hello everyone,

The following events are taking place at Unity of Kanawha Valley this week:

FRIDAY - OPEN MIC 4 KIDS!! AT 6:30PM.  This event is for performers ages 5-15.  Everyone is welcome and admission is free.  Sky will be hosting this month's event.  Please bring your friends, parents, and grandparents.  This event is a family fun evening of entertainment.  Sign-ups for performers is at 6pm. 

SATURDAY - HOT DOG SALE FROM 11AM - 2PM.  Please join us for lunch at our hot dog sale and take a break from the activities of downtown and the Carriage Trail.  Hot dogs, chips, drinks, and desserts will all be for sale.  Volunteers and dessert donations are still needed. 

SUNDAY - BOOK STUDY CLASS AT 10AM.  This will be our final week of studying "Lessons in Truth'.  In November, the topic will be Gratitude.

SUNDAY - CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM WITH REV. SKY KERSHNER.  Musicians this week will be Ron Sowell, Jack Kennedy, and Ryan Kennedy.

Friday - Nov. 2nd - Movie Night.  Food sharing at 6pm with movie at 6:30pm.
Saturday, Nov. 3rd - Inner Listening Class with Marianne at 10am.
Also on Saturday, Nov. 3rd - Woody Hawley Concert with Rob Carlson and opener Nels Andrews at 7:30pm.

The following events are happening this week at Unity of Kanawha Valley:

SUNDAY - BOOK STUDY GROUP AT 10AM.  This group is discussing "Lessons in Truth".

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM - This week, UKV is celebrating our 25th Anniversary. Please bring 25 items or something silver to place on our celebration table.   This week is also New Member Sunday.  Please join us in welcoming Aimee Huff, Greg Thaxton, Lucy Tucker, Marybeth Beller, and Rosa Beller.
Rev. Sky Kershner will be speaking on "The Power of Belief". 
Musicians this week will be Jack Kennedy and Mark Davis.

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING CHURCH SERVICE - Please join us for a pot-luck luncheon to welcome to our new members.  Please bring a food dish to share.

Happy 25th Anniversary to Unity of Kanawha Valley!

Hello everyone,

Happy 25th Anniversary to all who are members and who attend Unity of Kanawha Valley!  This Sunday, October 21st, we will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary.

Will you join us in the celebration by bringing a gift from  your abundance to church that day?  I am picturing us surrounded by silver decor which reflects our prosperous group and church.  Those bringing gifts might consider bringing 25 of something or 5+2 of something or something spectacular that will be of use or of inspiration to our ongoing commitment to serve each other and the world!

The following events are happening this week at Unity:

FRIDAY - RON SOWELL'S OPEN MIC AT 7:30PM.  Performers sign up at 7pm.  Admission is $5.00 and seniors, kids, and performers are $2.00.  Please join us for some fun and entertainment.

SUNDAY - BOOK STUDY CLASS AT 10AM.  The book for October is "Lessons in Truth".  This week's class will be led by Sharon Mullins.

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM - Guest speaker, Kathleen DuBois will be speaking on "The Law of Attraction."  Jack Kennedy will be providing the music.  UKV is also looking for a volunteer this Sunday to teach the grades 1-5 Sunday School class. 

AFTER CHURCH SERVICE - There will be a new member's class on "How Unity Fits for Me?".

ALSO AFTER CHURCH - There will be a work party to weed and clean up UKV's entrance to the Carriage Trail.

THURSDAY (OCT. 18TH)  - Board of Trustees meeting at 6pm.

Re: My father

Hello everyone,

Trish would like to thank all of you for keeping her and her father in your thoughts and prayers.  The following email is from Trish.

My father, James Quinton Ansley, passed away on Saturday, 10-06-12, after a brief illness. Although he fought hard to stay with us, his heart and body just could no longer keep up with his spirit. My fishing buddy will be missed sorely, not just by me, but by many as I am finding out more and more, day by day. I will especially miss his laughter and the twinkle in his eyes. Most of all, I will miss his presence.

There will be a public wake at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home in Vidalia, GA on Thursday, 10-11-12 from 6 - 8 PM. The funeral will be Friday, 10-12-12 at 2 PM at Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Johnson's Corner, GA. The interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, just south of Vidalia, GA following the funeral service.

The gathering of the family will be at James Quinton's residence at 3259 Old Normantown Road, Vidalia GA. The number there is 912-538-7427.

My spirit has been warmed by all the generous outpouring of love and prayers for both my father and me during this time. I am eternally grateful to all those who have lifted us up in prayer.

We are have several exciting events this week at Unity of Kanawha Valley:

FRIDAY - MOVIE NIGHT SHOWING "THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL".  This movie is about British retirees that travel to India to take up residence in a hotel.   It has at the theatres several months ago.  Food sharing at 6pm with the movie starting at 6:30pm. 

SATURDAY - "INNER LISTENING CLASS" AT 10:30 AM.  Marianne Gettman leads this class of slow stretching, chakra meditations, guided relaxation, balance exercises, and Qi Gong Flow.

SATURDAY EVENING - THE WOODY HAWLEY CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS JIM HURST IN CONCERT WITH CHET LOWTHER OPENING.  The concert is at 7:30pm.  For more information, please contact the Clay Center at claycenter.org.

SUNDAY - BOOK STUDY CLASS AT 10AM.  October's book study class will be discussing "Lessons in Truth".  There are several copies available for purchase in the UKV bookstore.

What is Unity? 14 Thoughts

Friends --

Two weeks ago we had a wonderful class after the Sunday Service. The theme was "What is Unity" and it was an intro class designed for folks considering becoming members of UKV (New Member Sunday will be on or UKV anniversary, Oct 21, 2012. Click here for more info on becoming a member.)

We had 18 participants in the class. Here is what some of them said in answer to the question: "What do you tell people when they ask you, What is Unity?"

• A place to dump my gratefulness.
• A place for searching and leaving with joy in my soul.
• Home. A place of love.
• A place to learn what is behind things, the reality of things.
• I can't describe it, but then, I can't describe the color blue either!
• A place for Love, not judgement.
• A place od no condemnation, where I am reminded that people are good.
• I think of Unity as the anti-church, an antidote to what church used to be for me.
• It is a little hippy church, but without the drugs. Open and honest.
• No one tells you what to be, they help you find out who you are.
• No condemnation, I feel loved for who I am
• A place to recharge
• It is my home
• It is my church

I think you might agree with me that these are extraordinary answers. Thank you for all of our particpants!

This Sunday we will be pushing forward with a second intro class: "What is Unity of Kanawha Valley." Please feel free to join us after the service to be part of another amazing discussion!
